Announcements/Activities:
1. The Smoky Valley Railroad wishes you a Happy 2012. Our Saturday sessions at the museum will resume starting January 7.
2. Steam locomotive comes to Alcoa, TN. Ex-Southern No. 630, with a “power” car and five beautifully restored Norfolk & Western passenger cars, came and parked along Wright Rd. in Alcoa Saturday November 12. They were getting ready to go to Knoxville on Monday in order to transport a convention group to Chattanooga. The 630, a 2-8-0 Consolidation built around the turn of the (last) century, was rebuilt at the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum shop in Chattanooga and, as part of a Norfolk-Southern public relations plan, was activated for excursion trips.
Here is a photo of the 630:
And here is the URL for a video of the 630 moving (it’s in two parts -- just keep the video running and the second segment will appear automatically):

The Whistle
You were greeted by the whistle from the famous Norfolk & Western Class J No. 611 on her last run on December 7, 1994. See links page to read and view videos of this historic trip.
